KENOSHA, Wis. — The Kenosha Common Council on Monday chose Rex Davenport (D), a Democrat and former Kenosha News reporter, to serve out the remainder of Alderperson Holly Kangas’ term representing the 4th District. Kangas resigned Sept. 16, 2025, citing personal health reasons. The term runs through April 2026.
The Council considered two applicants — Davenport (D) and Craig Sadur (D), a far-left member of Congregations United to Serve Humanity (CUSH) — before voting to appoint Davenport.
“We extend our gratitude to Alderperson Kangas for her commitment and service to the people of Kenosha,” Mayor David Bogdala said. “We wish her strength and good health in the months ahead. We also welcome Rex Davenport to the Council and look forward to working with him as we continue moving our community forward.”
City officials followed the ordinance-set process after the vacancy: the Council passed a resolution on Oct. 6 notifying the City Clerk, published notice in the local newspaper within 30 days, and then opened a 15-day application window. Applicants were required to live in the 4th District and be qualified electors — at least 18, U.S. citizens, and eligible to vote.
Bogdala noted both finalists were “very qualified” and thanked them for stepping up to serve. The Common Council represents residents across 17 aldermanic districts and sets local policy, approves budgets, and responds to community needs.
